Job Description:

We are currently looking for Vehicle Maintenance Technicians to join our team at London Gateway Port in Stanford le Hope. This is a 24/7 operation with day and night shifts, working 12 hours at a time. In a two-week period, you will work 7 shifts and have every other weekend off. Experience in the automotive industry as a Vehicle Technician, HGV, LGV technician, or related roles is preferred.

The Vehicle Maintenance Technician ensures smooth terminal operations by maintaining crane and mobile equipment accessibility and reliability. Responsibilities include planned maintenance, repairs, project work, and assisting with new equipment delivery, inspection, and commissioning.

This role involves working with machinery like quay cranes and various vehicles such as terminal tractors, shuttles, and straddle carriers. No two days are the same; you may perform critical repairs or general gear box maintenance.

About The Role

How will you contribute:

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs following safety standards to minimize downtime, including electrical duties.
  • Collect and report data during work on assets.
  • Manage contractors during equipment delivery and commissioning, ensuring safety protocols.
  • Support development and updating of method statements and risk assessments.
  • Lead by example to promote safe working practices.
  • Coordinate with stores and asset managers to maintain inventory.
  • Innovate and improve equipment productivity and performance.
  • Ensure work is performed safely and effectively, maintaining high standards for equipment availability, dependability, and safety.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum Level 3 Qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, etc.).
  • Experience as a Vehicle Technician, HGV, LGV, or related automotive roles is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance, including gear boxes, engines, hydraulics, lifting equipment, and basic electrical engineering.
  • Understanding of HSE regulations related to maintenance activities.

Additional Notes:

  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Roles may close early depending on application volume.
  • Valid UK or international driving license.
  • No unspent criminal convictions.
  • Weight limit: candidates must weigh under 130kg for safety reasons.
