VAT Director - Birmingham | Strategic Leadership Role in a Growing National Practice
Are you a VAT expert ready to lead from the front and shape the future of a growing national tax advisory team?
A fast-growing and highly respected accountancy and advisory firm is seeking a dynamic VAT Director to lead and expand its specialist VAT offering from the Birmingham office. This is a senior-level appointment suited to someone with vision, commercial awareness, and the drive to build a high-impact team in a modern, agile practice.

The Opportunity

You'll take ownership of the regional VAT function, work closely with fellow service line leaders, and influence the strategic growth of the firm's tax presence across the Midlands and nationally.
This is not a static role-it's about creating something. Whether advising clients across sectors like property, international trade, and not-for-profits, or mentoring future leaders, your influence will be felt at every level.

What You'll Be Doing

• Developing and implementing the VAT strategy alongside national leadership
• Building, inspiring, and growing a VAT advisory team with room for genuine progression
• Acting as the go-to senior advisor on complex VAT matters-across property, charities, international VAT, digitalisation, and more
• Supporting internal client teams on key technical VAT issues
• Representing the firm externally via events, thought leadership, and client development
• Playing an integral role in business development and strategic decision-making

What You'll Bring

• Significant experience in VAT advisory work, ideally from a professional services or Big 4/Mid-tier background
• Strategic insight and commercial instinct to grow a profitable advisory service
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence at senior stakeholder level
• Leadership qualities and a track record of managing, supporting, or mentoring teams
• A genuine interest in shaping the direction of a firm during a key growth phase
