Step into a key role within our small VAT team in Manchester, where you'll play an important part in ensuring accurate and compliant UK and European VAT reporting by handling VAT matters with varying complexity.
Working closely with the Senior VAT Accountant, you'll take ownership of VAT and related reports, ensuring the correct application of VAT by understanding the supply chain, as well as managing submissions and VAT account reconciliations. You'll also support continuous improvement initiatives and help guide the Assistant VAT Accountant.

Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for the preparation, validation and submission of Greenergy's monthly and quarterly UK and European VAT reports, including Intrastat and ESCL, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations
- Assist with additional UK VAT reporting, including import VAT, self-billing, and supply VAT, ensuring accuracy and timely submission
- Responsible for reconciling monthly UK/European VAT balance sheet accounts, posting VAT journals and maintaining accuracy and completeness of VAT accounting within the general ledger, in accordance with the business timetable
- Implement appropriate actions to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with any changes in legislation or business activities (e.g. new territories/registrations)
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with all VAT stakeholders
- Develop and implement continuous improvement plans to enhance quality and efficiency.
- Assist with additional VAT-related tasks and respond to audit and business queries as required
- Assist in training the Assistant VAT Accountant by providing support as needed, ensuring overall accuracy and compliance
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential:
- Qualified / Part-Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CTA, ATT, CIMA, AAT)
- Previous experience of UK and European VAT
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel
- Strong analytical skills and logical approach to new challenges
- Strong communicator with the ability to develop trusting and credible relationships at all levels of the business and across various teams
- Inquisitive and questioning mindset - not afraid to ask questions or challenge convention, and drive improvements and efficiencies as appropriate
- Takes personal responsibility for their work by staying up to date with relevant changes and applying them promptly, while consistently demonstrating initiative and drive
- Flexible and adaptable, understands overall team goals, and actively contributes to achieving them
- Able to analyse and interpret large volumes of financial data and connect insights to business issues
