Job description

North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust

North Cumbria Integrated Trust is seeking to appoint a Trust Registrar in the Vascular department.

The successful candidate will join a team of vascular surgeons, doctors, and nurse specialists providing high-quality vascular services across the Northern Lake District in Cumbria, offering an excellent working and living environment.

The department is supported by a vascular ultrasound scientist, CT and MRI services, and has a fully equipped angiography suite and vascular theatre with mobile imaging facilities. It collaborates closely with two vascular interventional radiology specialists and two clinical vascular scientists working in the vascular studies laboratory.

Regular weekly MDT meetings are held on-site. The department maintains strong links with the Tertiary unit at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, including weekly MDTs via video conferencing and biannual clinical conferences.

Trust doctors will have a designated educational supervisor, and training will be tailored to individual development needs. Resources such as IT and library facilities are available, and support is provided by GMC-recognized trainers. Active participation in departmental educational sessions and clinical governance, including audits, is expected.

The role involves liaising with nursing, professional, technical, social work, and administrative staff.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day care of patients under consultants, including elective and emergency vascular surgery. Responsibilities include attending outpatient clinics, operating theatres at CIC and WCH, conducting inpatient ward rounds, participating in weekly vascular MDTs, teaching meetings, and clinical governance sessions. On-call duties are on a 1 in 6 rota, from 08:00-17:00 as resident on-call and 17:00-08:00 as non-resident on-call, covering vascular surgery. The role includes providing cover for colleagues on leave.
