Job description

Role: Value Stream Manager

Location: Bedford

Salary: 45,000 - Depending on Experience

Proactive are currently in search of a Value Stream Manager in Bedford to start work as soon as possible. This is an exciting opportunity working for a market leader in the design and manufacturing of industrial braking solutions.

As a Value Stream Manager, you will be responsible for eliminating waste in the overall supply chain from start to finish for a defined product family, ensuring that the value stream meets or exceeds customer expectations. You will also manage materials-related functions including but not limited to Production Scheduling, Purchasing, and Inventory Control.

Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure that a current state value stream map is created for the end-to-end value stream.
  2. Conduct fact-based analysis of the current state map.
  3. Prepare an ideal state map showing the future of the value stream.
  4. Define the product family through product routing analysis and grouping.
  5. Create a future state map using lean techniques to remove waste and improve value.
  6. Lead daily activities within the value stream to meet commitments while implementing improvements.
  7. Manage shop floor activities within the value stream, including machining and assembly, under the direction of the Director of Operations.
  8. Mobilize people inside and outside the value stream to enable changes, including collaboration with customers and suppliers.
  9. Oversee purchasing and inventory control to meet delivery goals and company metrics.
  10. Maintain records such as inventory, production reports, and material locations within SAP/MRP systems.
  11. Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems.
  12. Coordinate planning and forecasting of customer orders to meet shipment deadlines.
  13. Utilize Kanban and other lean manufacturing techniques to optimize inventory and working capital.
  14. Collaborate with Engineering and Sales on new product development and projects.
  15. Supervise all Value Stream team members across shifts, including shop floor supervision through Team Leaders.

Gemba Walks:

  1. Arrange support from Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, and Materials; handle personnel issues; respond to expedite requests.
  2. Address abnormalities, monitor performance metrics, and follow up on expedite requests.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing methods, techniques, and equipment.
  • Understanding of product construction and application.
  • Knowledge of production scheduling and shop operations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to change.
  • Proficiency in shop floor control, production planning, and inventory systems.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and independent worker.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, team building, and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of lean or TPS principles.
  • Experience in high-mix/low-volume machine shop environments.

Education & Experience:

  • Recognized technical engineering qualification.
  • 5-10 years of progressive manufacturing experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role (desirable).
  • Broad technical and administrative experience in a manufacturing machine shop environment.
