A bit about the role...

Working in a team with the Head of Valuation and Appraisals, the Manager – Valuation and Appraisals will play a key role in providing valuation and appraisal advice to colleagues working to deliver housing and regeneration projects across England. You will be joining our small but highly skilled team, who are committed to making positive change in how valuation and appraisal work is undertaken as part of the delivery process.

The team believes in taking an innovative and creative approach to valuation and appraisal issues. We believe in working in a collaborative, pragmatic, way to foster good decision making and problem solving across the agency.

This is a rare chance to shape the future of valuation and appraisal activity in an influential, national organisation with real social purpose. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to support the design and delivery of key strategic projects across England and to support management of the annual asset valuations for our c.£1.2bn portfolio of development land.

Typical activities include:
  • Project support and peer review of valuations and appraisals for a wide range of projects
  • Preparing development appraisals and Red Book Valuations for internal purposes
  • Providing specialist input and analysis to government priorities such as New Towns or Planning Reforms
  • Helping to create new tools that support delivery
  • Supporting and facilitating Homes England’s community of surveying professionals, sharing best practice and developing relationships with industry bodies such as the RICS and the Government Property Profession.
A bit about you…

As a Chartered Surveyor, with experience in the development sector and an interest in housing and regeneration, you will be comfortable supporting the Head of Valuation and Appraisals and the team's Senior Managers working to devise solutions that secure delivery whilst maintaining value for money. You will be proficient in development appraisal techniques utilising Microsoft Excel and industry standard software packages.

The ability to think strategically whilst also paying attention to detail is important for this role, as are skills in diplomacy and communications. You will have the opportunity to lead and take responsibility for discrete work areas but will always be supported and encouraged to continue developing your skills. Knowledge and experience of both public and private sector approaches towards development is also advantageous.

As an experienced surveying professional, you’ll have an open and engaging approach that lends itself to working with others as part of a team in a collaborative, inclusive way.
