The digitisation team converts our analogue collections to enable access (such as through collections search) and digital preservation. The team undertakes work in-house or contracts it out to third parties through frameworks. In all instances, the team delivers to internal customers who connect content with our audiences.
The digitisation team is organized based on the purpose of digitisation (access or preservation) and the type of collections (still or time-based media).
Our access team handles on-demand requests to facilitate the use of collections in public, learning, and commercial programs. The preservation team focuses on digitising vulnerable assets, especially for assets that may deteriorate beyond repair in the next five years, under the Digital Futures project.
The Digitisation Team Leader (Access) is a specialist role leading a team comprising technicians, contract or fee-paid staff, and volunteers. Management of third-party digitisation is handled by the Digitisation Manager.
You will oversee on-demand digitisation requests and access projects for our customers and public programs. You will participate in project meetings as a stakeholder, providing insights to inform decisions and ensure daily progress.
You should possess skills in digital photographic digitisation and restoration, which will constitute most of your team’s work, and have sufficient expertise in time-based media digitisation to support the entire team.
Proficiency with high-end capture hardware and various software packages is essential. Work is conducted on both Apple Mac and PC platforms with high-quality calibrated screens in a colour-managed environment. Attention to detail, concentration, and an eye and ear for historic accuracy are prerequisites. You will also promote team learning and stay updated on current developments in the field.
