Vacancy for Digital Media Specialist (Our Screen Heritage) at the British Film Institute

The BFI is looking for a Digital Media Specialist who will provide a range of technical functions on exclusively audiovisual digital media—focusing on video distributed on the internet—to meet the BFI National Archive’s digital acquisition, preservation, and access objectives as part of the Our Screen Heritage project.

Our Screen Heritage aims to collect contemporary screen works. It is the third chapter of our screen heritage story, updating the BFI national collections to preserve the story of moving-image as it transitions into the digital/online era.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Operate all technical equipment related to performing digital preservation and access operations on audiovisual digital media, including workstations, transcoding software, Quality Control tools, and associated data storage peripherals.
  2. Assist with and advise on specifications, quality control, and verification processes in collaboration with colleagues to meet quality standards and deadlines.
  3. Provide regular and disciplined media management for central and local storage.
  4. Utilise a wide range of software applications, both open-source and proprietary, to meet acquisition, preservation, and access requirements.
