Location: Warwick
Employment Type: Full-Time
This is a very exciting opportunity to lead a world-renowned University archive as we acquire one of the most culturally significant archives of recent British history.
The University of Warwick is seeking an Archives Manager to lead the Modern Records Centre (MRC) as it manages the archives of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM). The MRC holds collections related to trade union and business history and British society. Its holdings include 16km of printed collections and approximately 9GB of digital and digitized materials, including archives of the TUC and CBI, as well as papers of prominent figures in trade union, industrial, and political history.
The archive is widely consulted by scholars, Warwick’s research, teaching, and undergraduate communities, local community members interested in heritage, and local schools involved in widening participation programs. In 2019, the MRC received Archive Service Accreditation from The National Archives.
Following the retirement of the current Archives Manager, Warwick is looking for a qualified archivist with a Postgraduate Diploma or MA in Archive Administration and extensive experience in a managerial or senior archivist role, preferably in Higher Education. The candidate should have substantial knowledge of archives in educational settings, cataloguing, metadata schema, preservation, disaster planning, health and safety standards, and digital archives systems and software.
The successful candidate will have proven staff management experience and project management skills, especially regarding NUM archives. Teaching experience, ideally at HE level, and knowledge of outreach, communications, social media, and digital assets are also essential.
