Job summary

A legal support charity in London seeks an Immigration Advisor to provide legal advice to detainees in prisons and detention centers. Candidates should have a minimum of two years’ experience in advice work and familiarity with immigration or asylum procedures. Overview

The Detention Advice Service (DAS) is a voluntary organisation set up twenty years ago to provide advice, information and assistance to those who are detained or threatened with detention under Immigration Act powers.

Responsibilities
  • Provide immigration advice in prisons and detention centres.
  • Visit prisons across London and the south of England to provide specialist legal advice directly to foreign national prisoners and detainees.
  • Handle requests for help by telephone and post from prisoners and detainees across the country.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of two years’ full-time advice work experience is required.
  • Previous experience of work with detainees, work in prisons and knowledge of immigration/asylum procedures would be an advantage.
Details

The post is a three day per week permanent position with scope to be made full time. The salary for this post is £24,157 pro rata. The deadline for applications is 9am on Friday 3 August, and interviews will be held on Tuesday 14 August.
