Job summary

BAE Systems in Hampshire seeks an Electronics Design Engineer to apply digital design expertise to challenging projects in advanced electronics. You will design FPGA/CPLD solutions, specify components and guide PCB teams to deliver robust hardware.

You will verify designs, support EMC testing, participate in design reviews, and collaborate with embedded software, mechanical and systems engineering to ensure successful delivery of new products and upgrades.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in FPGA/CPLD design and development.
• Experience with board-level digital electronics design, including processor interfaces and memory.
• Knowledge of digital communication interfaces: UART, SPI, I2C and Ethernet.
• Understanding of component-level PCB design from development to production.
• Experience in design verification, system integration, testing and defect resolution.
• Ability to interpret technical requirements and make sound engineering judgments.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed digital circuit designs, including component selection and evaluation.

Are you an Electronics Design Engineer looking to apply your digital design expertise to complex, cutting-edge engineering challenges? At BAE Systems, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative electronic solutions, supporting both new products and technology upgrades to existing systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Developing detailed digital circuit designs, including component selection, evaluation, simulation, schematic capture and providing guidance to PCB design teams.
• Designing, developing, simulating, testing and integrating VHDL-based designs, FPGA/CPLD solutions and embedded intellectual property (IP).
• Verifying designs using simulation, analysis and test techniques, including supporting EMC testing and customer installations.
• Producing design documentation, technical reports and evidence to demonstrate compliance with requirements, acceptance criteria and fitness for purpose.
• Supporting system integration activities and working closely with embedded software, PCB design and systems engineering teams to ensure successful delivery.
• Collaborating with colleagues across EMC, mechanical and thermal engineering, safety, manufacturing and other specialist disciplines.
• Contributing to peer reviews, design reviews, progress reviews and technical team meetings, helping maintain high engineering standards.
