Job description

UX/UI Designer

Based in Glasgow | Salary: £30,000 per annum
Full-time | Permanent | Mainly office-based (some remote work)

We are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced and user-focused UX/UI Designer to join a digital health and justice technology team. This role focuses on enhancing and maintaining a user-centred, accessible case management system supporting professionals across healthcare, legal, and public sector settings.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping intuitive and compliant digital solutions that respond to real-world complexity and improve user experience across high-pressure environments.

Key Employment Details

Location: Glasgow (mainly office-based, with some remote work)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:30 (37.5 hours/week)

Travel: A full, clean UK driving licence and access to a car are required

Security clearance: You must undergo and maintain DBS, NPPV Level 3, and HMPPS Cat A vetting. Failure to pass or retain clearance will result in contract termination

Additional hours: May occasionally be required depending on business need. TOIL or overtime applies

About the Role

The UX/UI Designer will be responsible for delivering well-researched, highly accessible, and user-centred digital experiences. Working across wireframing, prototyping, design systems, and accessibility, you’ll transform complex workflows into efficient, user-friendly tools.

You’ll collaborate closely with stakeholders including healthcare and justice professionals, as well as internal developers, product managers, and compliance teams. The role demands adaptability, excellent communication, and a strong commitment to user advocacy within a highly regulated sector.

Key Responsibilities

User Research & Insights

  • Conduct user research, interviews, and usability testing

  • Create personas, journey maps, and data-driven insights

  • Translate findings into actionable design solutions

UX Design & Interaction

  • Develop wireframes, flows, and interactive prototypes

  • Prioritise usability, efficiency, and accessibility

  • Design for high-pressure professional settings

UI Design & Visual Communication

  • Design engaging, intuitive interfaces aligned with brand and usability standards

  • Maintain a consistent design language across platforms

  • Ensure full compliance with WCAG, GDPR, and industry regulations

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work with cross-functional teams to deliver design solutions

  • Present and iterate designs based on stakeholder feedback

  • Promote a user-first approach across product development

Design Systems & Accessibility

  • Maintain a scalable design system and component library

  • Document design patterns and accessibility standards

  • Prioritise inclusivity and compliance in all deliverables

Agile Development & Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in Agile/Scrum teams, planning and retrospectives

  • Stay current with UX/UI trends and sector-specific innovation

  • Identify areas for design process improvement and scalability

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Demonstrated UX/UI experience with a strong portfolio

  • Proficient in Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar tools

  • Understanding of accessibility (e.g., WCAG) and regulatory requirements

  • Strong collaboration skills within multi-disciplinary teams

  • Experience designing for complex or regulated environments

Desirable:

  • Experience with EPRs, case management platforms, or public sector systems

  • Familiarity with front-end principles (HTML/CSS/JS)

  • Experience in Agile/Scrum environments

  • Knowledge of user psychology or behavioural design

Qualifications

  • Degree in UX/UI Design, HCI, Digital Media, or equivalent professional experience

  • Additional training in user research, accessibility, or service design (desirable)
