Job summary

EKFB is recruiting a Utilities Section Engineer to deliver utility designs and coordinated proposals for HS2 works. You will collaborate with Designers, Statutory Undertakers and construction teams to allocate resources and monitor site activities, ensuring quality and safety.

You will work with the Utilities Manager to manage subcontractors, produce programmes and reports, and contribute to financial forecasting for the 80km HS2 section.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering utility projects with Statutory Undertakers in sectors such as power, water, gas, or telecoms.
• Must hold a CSCS Card.
• Proficient with MS Office and AutoCAD.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work with site teams.
• Knowledge of Site Engineering activities and construction supervision.

About The Role

EKFB is proud to have been appointed by HS2 to deliver civil engineering works across an 80km section of the new high-speed rail link between the Chiltern Tunnel and Long Itchington Wood.

We’re seeking to recruit a Utilities Section Engineer to join our team.

This position holder will play a key role in delivering utility designs and works, ensuring fully coordinated proposals and effective collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Designer, Statutory Undertaker, Construction team, and HS2.

The Utilities Section Engineer will liaise with the Utilities Manager and Section Foreman to allocate labour, plant, and materials to carry out works activities to the required standards, programme, and budget. They will also manage site setting‑out, monitor the performance of appointed subcontractors, and resolve technical challenges in collaboration with the Utilities team.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring subcontractors complete their works to contractual requirements, have all necessary information and resources, and comply with assurance processes. You’ll assist in producing programmes, progress reports, resource and cost plans, and contribute to financial forecasting.

The Utilities Section Engineer will also complete quality audits and produce or review "as-built" records of the works. You'll need a strong understanding of Overhead (GS6) and Underground (HSG47) procedures and constraints, as well as knowledge of Statutory Undertakers safety and control.

About You

Key Skills and Qualifications:

• Experience delivering utility projects with Statutory Undertakers in sectors such as power, water, gas, or telecoms.
• A valid CSCS Card.
• Strong IT skills, with the ability to work confidently with MS Office and AutoCAD.
• The ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with Site Engineers, Foremen, Supervisors, and the site-based workforce.
• Demonstrated knowledge and practical application of Site Engineering activities, combined with construction supervision skills.
• A strong understanding of Overhead (GS6) and Underground (HSG47) procedures and constraints when working around multi-utilities.
• Knowledge of Statutory Undertakers safety and control procedures.
• An understanding of GIS systems.
• Knowledge of HAUC, the HS2 Act, Self-lay processes, Assurance & PPAs, and Utility Regulations to support the management of design, construction, and connection works with Statutory Undertakers.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• A valid UK driver’s license and access to your own vehicle.
