About the Role

As a Utilities Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring that utility service levels consistently support the production demands of the site. You will be responsible for maintaining the highest departmental standards, with a strong focus on health & safety, statutory compliance, and environmental monitoring.

This role involves proactive identification of energy-saving initiatives and opportunities to reduce asset downtime, supporting the delivery of departmental budgets through efficient maintenance and spare parts management. You'll also contribute to the site's Great Place to Work (GPTW) initiatives and uphold hygiene and GMP standards throughout the Utilities Department.

You will lead contractor management on a day-to-day basis and respond to crisis situations through extended cover, call-ins, and remote monitoring. Your responsibilities will include executing preventive maintenance (PPM) and corrective actions to ensure smooth, compliant, and efficient operation of all utility systems.

About You

  • Qualified Maintenance Engineer: You hold an NVQ Level 3 or above in a relevant engineering discipline (such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Multi-skilled Engineering), demonstrating a strong technical foundation.
  • Hands-on Maintenance Experience: You have practical experience in carrying out planned and reactive maintenance activities, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues before they escalate.
  • Strong Engineering Knowledge: You possess a solid understanding of engineering principles and maintenance best practices, enabling you to work safely and efficiently across a range of utility systems.
  • Positive Attitude and Commitment: You bring a can-do mindset and take pride in delivering a high standard of work. Youre driven to meet the performance and reliability standards that support overall site production.
  • Team-Oriented and Flexible: Youre comfortable working across departments and adapting to different shift patterns, contributing positively to team dynamics and supporting site-wide operational goals.
  • Eager to Learn and Develop: You see every task as a development opportunity and are keen to expand your technical capabilities in a complex utilities environment.
  • Relevant Utilities Experience (Desirable): Experience working with one or more of the following systems is highly beneficial:
  • Steam boilers including operation, monitoring, and maintenance
  • Compressed air systems ensuring efficiency and reliability
  • Effluent treatment plants maintaining environmental compliance
  • Chemical processing equipment safe handling and maintenance
  • Wastewater treatment facilities supporting sustainable site operations
