Your role
  • You will balance usher and administrative duties, ensuring you can work as needed.
  • You will be an essential first point of contact for all court users and have regular contact with the judiciary and administrative staff.
  • You will meet members of the public, which may include vulnerable witnesses and their legal representatives; prepare court/hearing rooms, complete documentation, and help ensure the court runs efficiently.
  • You will carry out general clerical work to support HMCTS and work within a team with regular management support, while being responsible for your own time.
Your Skills And Experience
  • Friendly and approachable manner with strong communication skills, able to assist and address court users clearly and confidently.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritise and organise your own time undertaking administrative tasks.
  • Comfortable using IT with attention to detail to ensure court documents are accurate; able to adapt to and learn new software packages.
  • Capable of providing help and reassurance calmly and professionally in sometimes challenging situations.

Further Details
  • These operational roles are customer facing and office-based to provide HMCTS services to the public.
  • Standard full-time hours are 37 per week. HMCTS welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing patterns where they meet role demands and are agreed prior to appointment.
  • Applications for part-time and flexible patterns will be considered according to MoJ Flexible Working policy. Minimum hours for part-time roles would be 30 hours per week.
Visa and Right to Work

Skilled Worker Visa: From 22 July 2025, the Government increased the salary threshold and skills level for Skilled Worker visas. This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for sponsorship if applying for the first time. If you have held a Skilled Worker visa continuously since before 22 July 2025, eligibility will be assessed during vetting checks.

Successful applicants must have the legal right to live and work in the Civil Service and the United Kingdom.

Please note these roles will be based at Lincoln County Court, 360 High Street, Lincoln, LN5 7PS.

Working Arrangements

The MoJ offers Hybrid Working where possible. This is informal, non-contractual flexible working that blends base location, other MoJ sites and/or home working. A minimum of 60% of working time is expected in an office, subject to local estate capacity. Some roles may not be suitable for Hybrid Working and arrangements will be discussed with successful candidates.
