Job description

User Researcher: HR Automation

Location: Remote + Some time on a local site within the UK

Rate: £650 per day

IR35: In scope

Duration: 4 month initial contract + possible extension

The request is to appoint a User Researcher to support the service design of departmental HR services in alignment with user-centred design principles and government service standards. You will map user journeys and record pain points to inform service design decisions. The role involves conducting user interviews and usability testing with a representative cross-section of internal staff. The project aims to improve the effectiveness, usability, and accessibility of HR services.

This phase will enhance existing functionality, including features for contingent workers, onboarding additional HR query types to expand the HR Query Service beyond Resourcing queries, and HR Demand Management, including creating common demand design management capabilities.

Sought: A senior user researcher experienced in planning and leading user research activities within larger teams and complex services.

At this level, you will:

  • Have experience with HR programmes, Demand management, Automation, Business change, or Transformation – very important
  • Have implemented a new system with a focus on automation, business change, and transformation
  • Collaborate with Tech Project teams, Programme Governance, Platform Management, and be part of a new Service Design Team
  • Emphasize soft skills such as stakeholder benefit recognition, reducing transactions, improving quality, and focusing on people over technology
  • Be functional rather than technical
  • Help design user-centric services
  • Work with key business stakeholders
  • Understand service desk implementation, user contact methods, and issue categorization
  • Build user-centered practices within new teams
  • Align research activities with broader service propositions
  • Supervise and develop other user researchers to improve research practices
  • Utilize agile research practices
  • Adapt research methods to the complexity of the environment
  • Influence team priorities and agile processes
  • Apply various methods to analyze research data and synthesize findings
  • Engage sceptical colleagues in analysis and synthesis
  • Help teams adopt a wide range of user research methods
