Job Title: UI Design Lead

Your new role

Here at Hitachi Rail, we have a fantastic opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced User Interface Lead to manage the user interface design of our digital products. As the UI Design Lead, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, such as developers, product managers, and stakeholders, to deliver intuitive, aesthetically pleasing, and high-performing user interfaces. You will take ownership of the visual design strategy and guide your team in creating seamless and engaging user experiences across multiple platforms.

We are looking for an individual with a track record of working with complex UI designs across multiple platforms, resulting in simple and valued end users designs. Practical application and implementation of how AI can be used across UI design would be ideal but not essential.

You will be responsible for the below:

  • Lead the design of user interfaces for web applications in the rail industry, ensuring they are visually compelling, user-centric, and aligned with brand guidelines.
  • Work closely with software developers and product managers to ensure that design solutions are feasible, align with technical constraints, and meet user needs.
  • Develop and maintain design systems, style guides, and design libraries to ensure consistency and scalability across all products.
  • Champion a user-centered design approach, ensuring the UI designs are intuitive, accessible, and easy to use, and conducting user research and testing as needed.
  • Create high-fidelity prototypes, mock-ups, and visual assets; iterate based on feedback from stakeholders, usability testing, and analytics.
  • Communicate design concepts, decisions, and trade-offs to stakeholders clearly and persuasively, including non-designers.
  • Keep up to date with the latest UI design trends, tools, and technologies, and advocate for best practices in design.

About you

  • Vast and demonstratable UI design experience
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a variety of UI design projects, including mobile and web applications, with a focus on visually rich and user-centered designs.
  • Expertise in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar, and proficiency with prototyping.
  • A strong understanding of user-centered design principles, usability, and accessibility standards.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to create pixel-perfect designs.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance user needs, business objectives, and technical constraints.
  • A high understanding of UI UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field is preferred but not required.
