Job description

This role is only open to applicants that currently work within an NHS Trust within the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care System (HIOW ICS).

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the urology department for a highly motivated and patient-centred individual to join the urology nursing team.

The successful candidate will work closely with the urology medical team in supporting patients on the 'Urology cold site'. They will also provide support to wards or departments for patients who may require specialist urological interventions/treatments.

The candidate will be an effective communicator and be able to work within the multidisciplinary team.

The successful candidate will work within the existing team to:

  1. Carry out clinical examination of the patients attending Emergency department or Surgical Assessment Unit, including physical examination of urology systems. Present findings to the urology consultant of the week, or urology registrar onsite.
  2. Work autonomously to deliver specialist clinical urological care or advice. Act as a key link between wards/departments and primary care partners, ensuring communication across professional boundaries.
  3. Provide evidence-based care or advice for urology patients referred via ePurple alongside the consultant of the week and senior middle grades.
  4. Run nurse-led follow-up clinics to review patients as required, helping to avoid admissions.
  5. Provide education for HHFT staff and medical students as part of the wider urology team workforce.

Our vision is to provide outstanding care for every patient. Patient care is at the heart of what we do at our three sites: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, and Andover War Memorial Hospital. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 600,000 people across Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire.

Our cultural ambition is to foster a culture that places people at the heart of all we do, where everyone belongs, and where learning, improvement, and excellence thrive.

We provide specialist services to people across the UK and internationally. We are one of only two centres in the UK treating pseudomyxoma peritonei (a rare abdominal cancer) and are leaders in tertiary liver cancer and colorectal cancer.

The trust employs over 9,000 staff with a turnover of more than £500 million annually. As a Foundation Trust, we are directly accountable to our members through the governors, who represent their constituencies and influence the trust’s future plans.
