Job description

To primarily transport clinicians to patients' homes to provide medical assistance. The post holder will also be responsible for vehicle maintenance during each shift. Drivers must always perform duties safely and legally, ensuring vehicles are maintained and operated within current regulations, notably the Road Traffic Act and Highway Code.

Main duties of the job
  1. Ensure the vehicle has adequate fuel for the shift, refuelling as necessary using the company fuel card.
  2. Safely load and unload medical equipment and supplies, adhering to manual handling guidelines.
  3. Complete the driver’s checklist at the start of each shift to confirm all equipment and supplies are available and functional.
  4. Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report faults immediately to the Shift Manager, completing fault notification sheets.
  5. Drive clinicians to patients' homes safely and within legal speed limits, following all traffic laws. This is not an emergency service.
  6. Accurately record all visit details and return driver log sheets to base at the end of each shift.
  7. Deliver supplies, prescriptions, or medications between sites as requested by the Shift Manager.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience
  • GCSE level education or equivalent.
  • Full valid driving license with no more than 3 penalty points.
  • Experience working in healthcare/NHS.
  • Experience driving for other employers.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This role requires a DBS check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, with submissions made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for criminal convictions.
