Job description

Unqualified Teaching Assistant
Location: Woolton, Liverpool, L25
Contract: Full-time (Term-time only, 39 weeks per year)
Start Date: September 2025 (or as soon as possible)
Salary: £13.75 - £14.50 per hour (dependent on experience)

Role Summary

The school is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Unqualified Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team. You will work under the guidance of qualified teaching staff to help raise attainment levels and support the social, emotional, and academic development of pupils. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for working with children and who may be considering a future career in education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom support to the teacher, including:
    • Assisting with the planning and delivery of engaging learning activities
    • Supporting individual pupils or small groups, particularly those with additional needs
    • Preparing classroom resources, displays, and teaching materials
  • Encourage positive behaviour and support pupils in working and playing cooperatively
  • Supervise pupils during break and lunch times, as required
  • Deliver basic interventions in reading, writing, numeracy, and other key skills
  • Assist with general administrative tasks such as photocopying, filing, and record keeping
  • Help pupils develop positive social and behavioural skills, setting a good example
  • Provide general welfare and pastoral care, including basic first aid (training will be provided)

Person Specification

Essential:

  • A genuine enthusiasm for working with children and young people
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport quickly
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills (GCSEs in English and Maths at grade 4/C or equivalent)
  • Willingness to receive training and act on feedback
  • Empathetic, patient, and maintains a positive outlook

Desirable:

  • Previous experience (paid or voluntary) working with children (e.g. nursery, holiday club, youth work)
  • Awareness of safeguarding and child protection principles
