Location: Balsall Heath, Birmingham

Salary: £110-£140 per day, depending on qualifications and experience

Contract Type: Full-time (Term-time only available)

Overview

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges? We are seeking a committed and compassionate HLTA to work with pupils with SEMH needs in the B12 area of Birmingham. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to support learners who may not thrive in mainstream education, helping them rebuild confidence, achieve academic goals, and develop essential life skills.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Deliver engaging, personalised 1:1 or small-group sessions across core subjects (English, Maths, Science).
  2. Adapt teaching approaches to meet individual needs, emotional regulation levels, and learning styles.
  3. Build trusting relationships with pupils who may display challenging behaviour or have experienced trauma.
  4. Collaborate with SENCOs, teaching staff, and external professionals to track progress and support wider development.
  5. Promote emotional wellbeing, resilience, and a positive attitude to learning.
Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • Experience working with children and young people with SEMH or SEN.
  • Strong subject knowledge in core curriculum areas.
  • A nurturing, patient, and flexible approach to teaching.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, trauma-informed practice, and behaviour management.
  • Teaching qualification (QTS/QTLS) or relevant tutoring/mentoring experience.
