Role Title: Director of Research (Sustainable Finance)

Location: Home-based

The Blockchain & Climate Institute (BCI) is an international volunteers-led think tank supporting and advocating the application of blockchain technology in the global fight against climate change.

We are seeking a passionate VOLUNTEER with a methodological approach, capable of conducting independent research, engaging stakeholders, and establishing strategic partnerships to advance BCI's mission. The role involves leading research processes, mentoring officers, publishing research, and producing briefing materials for high-level conferences, aiming to influence sustainable finance policies globally.

BCI is looking for an outstanding volunteer to serve as Director of Research (Sustainable Finance), leading Research Division I. This is a voluntary unpaid role.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, strategic planning, and management across the Division, especially on projects combining “Sustainable Finance” and “Data Technologies”.
  • Report to the Director-General, ExCo, and advisors on project progress.
  • Coordinate research support for various thematic councils.
  • Conduct primary and secondary research on sustainable finance, focusing on climate and environmental issues.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with support from Strategy Officers.
  • Represent BCI at conferences, communicate research findings, and engage stakeholders.

Requirements:

Education & Training:

  • Relevant degree or training, Ph.D. preferred.
  • Experience in producing research outputs and reports for diverse audiences.
  • Proven organizational and business development skills.
  • Ability to build stakeholder relationships.
  • Independent and team work experience with initiative.
  • Experience in managing technology projects supporting sustainable development.

Credentials:

  • Deep understanding of TCFD Recommendations.
  • Knowledge of finance sector aspects and sustainable finance standards.

Transformational Data Technologies:

  • Experience with Blockchain, AI, IoT, and related data technologies.

The candidate should demonstrate cross-disciplinary expertise to produce cutting-edge research, such as using Blockchain Green Bonds for funding sustainable projects and leveraging data for impact assessment and smart contracts.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and presentation skills.
  • Organizational skills and ability to handle pressure.

Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong knowledge of climate change, blockchain, and AI topics.

BCI aims to support policymakers in adopting emerging technologies for environmental benefits, ensuring financial sustainability to aid developing communities.
