Northern Trust is seeking an experienced UNIX/Linux Hands-On Architect to lead the design, implementation, and road mapping of our enterprise-scale UNIX/Linux infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial services technology and a proven track record of architecting and implementing scalable, robust, compliant, and secure systems in a hybrid cloud environment.

Responsibilities include:

• Architecture Design and Implementation: Design and implement scalable, robust, and secure UNIX/Linux infrastructure solutions. Develop and maintain architectural roadmaps aligned with business objectives. Ensure consistency and standardization across the enterprise UNIX/Linux environment. Architect solutions for hybrid cloud environments.
• Hybrid Cloud Strategy: Lead the design and implementation of hybrid cloud solutions integrating on-premises and cloud-based UNIX/Linux systems. Optimize workload placement and resource utilization across hybrid environments.
• Implementation and Technical Leadership: Lead UNIX/Linux infrastructure projects. Provide technical guidance and mentorship. Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Security and Compliance: Architect solutions meeting financial industry security standards. Implement security best practices. Ensure compliance with regulations. Design secure access mechanisms. Conduct security assessments.
• Performance and Scalability: Design high-performance, scalable systems. Implement monitoring and optimization strategies. Ensure infrastructure can scale.
• Automation and DevOps: Develop automation strategies. Implement Infrastructure as Code. Promote DevOps culture.
• Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: Design disaster recovery solutions. Ensure high availability.
• Maintenance and Support: Develop maintenance strategies. Document systems and processes.
• Cloud Integration: Architect hybrid cloud solutions. Implement cloud migration strategies.
• Mentorship and Leadership: Provide technical leadership. Collaborate with teams.
• Vendor Management: Evaluate technologies and vendors. Manage relationships.

Skills/Qualifications:

• Qualifications in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
• Proven experience in UNIX/Linux system administration and architecture.
• Experience in a senior architectural role within financial services.
• Hands-on experience with enterprise UNIX/Linux systems (e.g., Red Hat, Oracle Linux, IBM AIX).
• Knowledge of hybrid cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices.
• Proficiency in scripting languages (Bash, Python, Perl) and automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
• Understanding of network protocols, storage, and databases.
• Familiarity with financial regulations (PCI-DSS, SOX, GDPR).
• Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking skills.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
