Overview

We are seeking to recruit a University Teacher to join the School of Allied Health Professions, Pharmacy, Nursing and Midwifery for a one-year maternity cover. This is an exciting opportunity to work with colleagues to contribute to leading and delivering the pre-registration Speech and Language Therapy degree programmes. These are the BMedSci Speech and Language Therapy, the MMedSci Speech and Language Therapy (full and part time) and the BSc Speech and Language Therapy (Degree Apprenticeship) programmes.

We seek candidates with the vision and drive to help us achieve our ambition of delivering an outstanding student experience and to equip our graduates to advance understanding in Speech and Language Therapy and be at the forefront of our profession.

We are looking for candidates with experience in one or more of the following: developmental speech, language and communication needs, key concepts in disability, healthcare and education, clinical methods and intervention, and professional development. Other areas of experience can also be considered but preferred candidates will have knowledge of and skills in working with children and young people. Other duties will include clinical supervision of students on clinical placements in local schools, academic tutoring, dissertation supervision, and student recruitment activities such as open days.

Whatever your experience, we are looking for new ideas and approaches to help shape our Speech and Language Therapy programmes and educate graduates to be at the forefront of the profession.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and deliver high-quality teaching, assessment, and student support to enable effective learning
  • Contribute to the development of programme modules that are accessible, inclusive and contribute to the University’s Teaching and Learning Strategy
  • Develop and implement ideas for improving own teaching design, delivery and assessment
  • Contribute to student recruitment activities such as admissions open days and interviews
  • Contribute to effective relationships with our external stakeholders (within academia, NHS Speech and Language Therapy services, Independent Speech and Language Therapy services, Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), Health and Care Professions (HCPC) to foster collaboration, at a regional and national level
  • Actively contribute to the collective vision, mission and values of the University through individual action and inclusive, collaborative working
  • Consistently take responsibility for outcomes, provide support to others and make inclusive decisions which together have a demonstrable positive impact within the School
  • Constructively challenge established practice, structure and process in order to bring about positive change and improved outcomes
  • Make ethical decisions in your role, embedding the University sustainability strategy into your working activities wherever possible
  • Plan and prioritise your own daily teaching and administrative tasks as well as participate in longer term planning through contribution to policy development.

Essential criteria

  • Internationally recognised qualification in speech and language therapy and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (assessed at Application).
  • MSc or equivalent level of clinical experience in a relevant subject area (assessed at Application).
  • Relevant academic and clinical teaching experience with pre-registration speech and language therapy students in paediatric speech, language and communication needs (assessed at Application/ Presentation /Interview).
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality teaching programmes to ensure effective learning (assessed at Application/ Presentation /Interview).
  • Enthusiasm to work into our in-house and outreach Speech and Language Therapy clinics to deliver high quality clinical placements to our students (assessed at Interview).
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal (assessed at Application/ Presentation).
  • Experience of working both collaboratively and independently with a high degree of personal effectiveness (assessed at Application).
  • Ability to consistently make accountable, creative and considered decisions (assessed at Application/Interview).
  • Experience of fostering effective relationships at all levels, both internally and externally (academia, professional bodies, NHS and independent Speech and Language Therapy services) (assessed at Interview).

Desirable criteria

  • Ability to critically review and assess existing teaching programmes and own teaching practice in order to bring about positive change (assessed at Application/ Interview).
  • A commitment to continuing professional development (assessed at Application).

Salary: £48,149 - £57,422

Next steps in the recruitment process
