Job summary

University of Sheffield invites applications for two University Teacher positions to deliver, assess and design teaching on the NHS Educational Mental Health Practitioner programme. The role is 0.4 FTE, with teaching on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and may suit clinicians with experience working with children and young people.

Some teaching outside EMHP may occur across postgraduate and undergraduate programmes.

Qualifications

• Professional qualifications and/or substantial relevant experience (e.g. PG Dip in CBT, DClin Psy, PG Cert in Low Intensity work)
• Suitable NHS or educational experience of working with children and young people
• Demonstrate knowledge of low intensity CBT informed assessments, formulations and interventions
• Experience of being in a teaching role delivering psycho-educational interventions

Responsibilities

• Develop and design high quality teaching for the programme in line with the national curriculum and learning objectives
• Deliver teaching with prepared materials and clear subject explanations
• Collaborate with colleagues to plan and deliver teaching with new methods to enhance student experience
• Carry out assessment design, marking, moderation and timely feedback
• Contribute to student recruitment and assess applicants for training suitability

Overview

The School of Psychology at the University of Sheffield delivers postgraduate and undergraduate programmes across a range of academic and clinical/applied areas of psychology. Our teaching is research led, equipping graduates with an advanced understanding and the key skills needed in their chosen careers. The Clinical and Applied Psychology Unit operates within the School of Psychology and delivers a range of applied postgraduate courses, including the Educational Mental Health Practitioners (EMHP) training programme.

We are seeking to recruit two University Teachers to deliver, assess and design teaching on the NHS Educational Mental Health Practitioner programme. Students will practice and develop their clinical skills on placement when not in teaching.

You will join an established team, supporting students throughout their training journey. You will bring strong communication and time management skills to the role. Above all, you will be dedicated to delivering excellent teaching and giving students the best possible training experience.

The posts are 0.4 FTE, with the expectation that you will deliver teaching on Wednesdays and Thursdays. They would suit clinicians with experience of working with children and young people, and could be held in parallel with an existing clinical position. Whilst the primary focus of the posts will be teaching on the EMHP programme, there may also be opportunities to contribute to other postgraduate and undergraduate teaching that takes place across programmes within the School.

Main duties and responsibilities

• Develop and design high quality teaching for the programme in line with the national curriculum which includes identifying learning objectives
• Deliver teaching which includes preparing materials, communicating subject matter and encouraging critical discourse to develop independent thinking
• Ability to work as a team player in the planning and delivery of teaching considering new teaching methods to enhance the student experience
• Carry out assessment for the programme which includes designing assessment and criteria; marking assessments; ensuring adequate moderation, providing prompt written/oral feedback; judging whether student circumstances should be taken into consideration the assessment
• Contribute to the student recruitment process which involves representing the programme at interviews acting as a gate keeper to the training role and assessing students' suitability for training
• Provide prompt, helpful and accurate feedback to students
• Carry out course evaluation including facilitating student feedback, reflecting on own teaching design and delivery, and implementing ideas for improving own performance.
• Act as Module Coordinator, reviewing and ensuring the teaching and assignment(s) for an assigned module meets the curriculum criteria and is of a high standard.
• Take a pastoral role for students, such as acting as AcademicTutor. If necessary, refer students to the appropriate authority for guidance.
• Liaise with external stakeholders offering guidance on University policies and procedures
• Plan and prioritise own daily workload in consultation with the needs of the programme
• Deal with reactive requests daily such as those relating to teaching, supervision of students and administrative tasks
• Contribute to the life of the School, the Faculty and the wider University community through participation in and membership of School / Faculty Committees.
• Develop a strong national and international professional profile by, for example, external examining, organising conferences and various committees.
• Teaching-related development work will be self-generated through scholarly pursuits, innovation in teaching and innovation in teaching-related administration.
