Job summary

Lawes Consulting Group is partnering with a rapidly expanding UK MGA to recruit an Underwriting Team Leader. The role leads a team of five underwriters, providing coaching, day-to-day direction, and performance management to meet underwriting and commercial targets.

You will also deliver technical underwriting support on complex cases, maintain high standards, and collaborate with senior management to drive growth of the underwriting function as the business expands.

Qualifications

• Experienced insurance professional with a strong underwriting background and proven leadership capability.
• Candidate could be an Underwriting Team Leader or a Senior Underwriter moving into management.

Our client is a rapidly expanding MGA with a growing presence across the UK and ambitious plans for significant growth over the next 48 months. As part of this continued expansion, they are looking to appoint an Underwriting Team Leader to take responsibility for a team of five Underwriters. This is a hands‑on leadership role, focused on developing people, driving performance and ensuring the team consistently delivers against its underwriting and commercial objectives.

The Role:

You will lead and manage a team of five Underwriters, providing day‑to‑day direction, coaching and support. A key part of the role will be developing the team and helping individuals reach their full potential through regular 1-to-1s, clear objectives and ongoing performance management.

You will be responsible for ensuring the team hits its targets, maintaining high underwriting standards and providing support on more complex underwriting decisions where required.

The role will also involve working closely with senior management to support the MGA's wider growth plans, identify opportunities to improve performance and help build a high‑performing underwriting function as the business continues to expand.
