Job summary

Markel is seeking an Underwriting Performance Manager to join the Underwriting Strategy & Performance (USP) team. You will work at the heart of underwriting decision-making, partnering with underwriting, actuarial, finance and portfolio teams to optimise performance and support data-driven decisions across Markel International.

The role sits within the USP team reporting to the Chief Underwriting Officer, International.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in insurance, reinsurance, underwriting, actuarial, finance, consulting or analytics.
• Experience analysing business or portfolio performance, with an understanding of insurance economics; London Market knowledge is beneficial.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; clear written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Shape Markel International's cycle management strategy.
• Support planning, portfolio reviews, forecasts and underwriting performance assessments.
• Analyse underwriting and portfolio performance to identify drivers, risks and opportunities.
• Build relationships across underwriting, portfolio analytics, actuarial, finance and other functions.
• Deliver defined work across strategic projects and ad hoc analyses; take ownership from question to output.
