Reporting to the Head of the LIC UK Branch, this is an engaging and collaborative role providing full relationship oversight and guidance to the team of 300 plus seconded underwriters from across the market producing high quality analysis, guidance and information on every class of business underwritten at LIC UK Branch to ensure the strategic needs of the Corporation and the objectives of the Underwriting team are met. In a relationship management capacity you will ensure effective engagement with Seconded Underwriters and underwriters more broadly using the LIC platform, including providing connectivity with the LIC Country Manager Network.

Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Lead the market engagement elements of the Underwriting Team, working with Managing Agents and developing relationships with key stakeholders both in and outside of the organisation
  • SME for Underwriting, be a key referral point for underwriting queries and information within LIC
  • Contribute towards LIC’s oversight and management of controls, peer review and audits.
  • Fulfil the requirements and responsibilities of an RD, including mandatory training as required by the regulator
  • Management and ownership of the LIC Underwriting Authority process within the UK Branch. Design, implementation and ownership of the Seconded Underwriter Community Plan
  • Link the Underwriting Community with the LIC Branch Network to facilitate greater trading opportunities across the network
  • Oversee compliant entry of new entrants to the LIC platform
  • Contribute towards Corporation-wide initiatives including: Multinational projectLloyd’s Lab
  • Membership, attendance and contribution to UK Branch governing committees, deputising for the Head of Underwriting upon request
  • Build and maintain excellent working relationships with Lloyd’s Market Managing Agents, Underwriters and other appropriate team members to facilitate trading within the LIC requirements
  • Meet service standards, record keeping & administrative requirements, escalating where risks cannot be met
  • Work with the Head of Underwriting to ensure appropriate underwriting talent to achieve strategic targets

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Underwriting experience with a lead or supervisory role, emphasizing coaching and development
  • Proven team management skills, KPI setting, and target achievement
  • Experience managing activities, priorities, and people at a senior level
  • Advising on risk management, performance, and oversight regulation
  • Understanding of Underwriting Principles and their application to LDI
  • Knowledge of FCA Regulations relevant to the role
  • Experience presenting to or communicating with regulators
  • Initiative and problem-solving skills
  • Strong relationship management and communication skills
  • Flexible personal approach
  • Comprehensive understanding of underwriting guidelines and overlays
