Underwriting Manager - Latent Defects - North Yorkshire/North East

We are working with a reputable Building Warranty company seeking a Latent Defects Underwriting Manager to join their established team in North Yorkshire.

Role Responsibilities

  • Implement audit and enforcement systems to ensure financial compliance with FCA standards.
  • Manage controls and monitoring related to insurance sales.
  • Develop and oversee underwriting processes for Building Warranties and other insurance products.
  • Coordinate with the Administration Manager to ensure the quote and application process meets all requirements.
  • Work with the Technical Manager to establish financial and technical checks on Developers to monitor clients.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Manager to control and monitor client funds.
  • Ensure claims processes are managed in line with FCA regulations, in partnership with the management team.
  • Supervise inspection and surveying processes through the Technical Manager.
  • Lead and manage the team effectively, fostering a culture of change and continuous improvement.
  • Embed a philosophy of embracing change, building a resilient and adaptable workforce.
  • Demonstrate transformational leadership, managing change in a structured way while engaging the team.
  • Be solutions-focused, self-sufficient, and capable of problem-solving across various areas.
  • Adapt leadership style to motivate and gain support from others.
  • Introduce innovative practices within the insurance aspects of the business, advising the Board on strategies.
  • Share best practices and celebrate successes across the organization.
  • Motivate the underwriting team to perform at their best.
  • Manage underperformance with HR support, and develop talent for succession planning.
  • Make proactive and difficult decisions when necessary.
  • Work effectively in a collaborative manner, engaging with key stakeholders to achieve goals.
  • Manage conflicts and high-performance dynamics within the team.
  • Apply excellent analytical and reasoning skills.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Hold Corporate Membership of The Chartered Insurance Institute.
  • Have a thorough understanding of FCA requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook.

The company offers a competitive salary up to £55,000 depending on experience, along with excellent benefits.
