Are you an experienced Underwriting Manager with expertise in complex lending? Do you have a solid understanding of self-build mortgages and development finance? We are now seeking an Underwriting Manager to lead our operations in complex lending, guiding a talented team towards success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the underwriting process for self-build and development finance projects, with a focus on assessing complex income streams.
  • Collaborate effectively with brokers, clients, and stakeholders to create structured solutions that meet both regulatory and client demands.
  • Develop, implement, and refine underwriting policies and procedures to ensure efficiency and compliance.
  • Coach and mentor team members, fostering a culture of professional growth and high performance.
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners to drive operational success.
  • Underwriting high net worth applications with complex income streams and construction methods for BTL, residential owner occupied, self-build and development finance applications.
  • Proven track record of managing, driving and increasing productivity and the training & competency performance of a team of Underwriters, with the ability and track record to lead colleagues in making decisions outside of their comfort zone.
  • Understand the requirement for providing exemplary customer service and a proven track record of creating and delivering memorable experiences for Mortgage Brokers and or customers.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent housekeeping, a confident decision maker and able to handle challenge in times of uncertainty.

What You Bring:

  • Proven experience in underwriting, specifically with complex lending.
  • Strong understanding of self-build mortgages and development finance processes.
  • CeMAP qualified, demonstrating your knowledge of mortgage advice and regulation.
  • Significant line management experience, with a capacity to lead and inspire a team.
  • Excellent analytical skills complemented by keen attention to detail and a solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Strong communication skills, enabling effective engagement with both clients and colleagues.
