The purpose of this role is to contribute towards the delivery of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) through monitoring account performance, controlling underwriting standards, supporting business development activities, and ensuring that business written is done so in a technically excellent manner, adhering to underwriting authority and standards.

You will participate in the Global P&C Academy accreditation, enhancing your skills in underwriting, risk engineering, pricing, and claims management, while exchanging best practices across the Allianz Group. Additionally, for pricing-based roles, Allianz Insurance offers a generous study package to support obtaining the actuarial qualification through the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the UK.

Salary Information

Pay: Circa £70,000 per year.

Salary is based on relevant experience, skills, and location. It is part of our total reward package.

About You

As the Underwriting Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring account and line of business performance, identifying under and over-performance, and implementing remedial or opportunity actions.
  • Delivering KPI targets across complex cases and portfolios to support high-level business strategies, understanding Account Management principles and the impact of portfolio changes or individual cases.
  • Adhering to Underwriting Authority and understanding the impact of portfolio or case decisions on Profit and Loss and plan achievement.
  • Making key commercial decisions to support profitable development, stakeholder support, and business development activities.
  • Undertaking and reporting on Underwriting Inspections, account control, and quality review programs.
  • Producing technical training materials, and leading training, mentoring, and coaching activities in conjunction with Head Office and training coordinators.
  • Liaising with internal teams including Sales, Distribution, Pricing, Claims, and Operations, and representing the company at forums.

To be successful, you will have or be:

  • An in-depth understanding of policy wordings, clauses, and non-standard covers, with the ability to convey this understanding.
  • The ability to identify cover and hazards influencing risk acceptance, pricing, or terms, and to apply risk management techniques and underwriting rules.
  • Understanding of effective underwriting skills and tools, and the ability to use these to underwrite risks profitably.
  • An understanding of claims causes and costs, and the application of risk mitigation tools.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and its application by Line of Business.
  • Understanding of underwriting skills for segmentation and product development activities.
  • Knowledge of Treaty and facultative reinsurance programs and their strategic use.
  • Ability to interpret statistical data, identify trends, influences, and anomalies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • High level of underwriting authority or working towards it.
