About the role:

To lead a motivated, functioning Operations team, ensuring adequate resource is deployed to the tasks of the Operations team to meet agreed SLA’s for Underwriting and Claims referrals.

Effective people management of the Underwriting & Claims team, striving for a collaborative environment based on psychological safety where each team member feels they can be their authentic self and freely contribute to meeting personal and collective objectives.

Stand up for marginalised people or groups, calling out behaviours or actions that are not aligned with the DEI principles. Acting as a visible ally taking accountability in visibly supporting the DEI strategy.

Represent the Underwriting & Claims management team in line with their leadership values, their DEI principles and management culture.

Monitor the quality and appropriateness of internal and client decisions and processes and procedures for Underwriting and Claims to protect their bottom line.

Contribute to the overall relationship management i.e. your client counterparts (including visits, reviews, training) of past and present clients.

Act in a manner that is aligned with their risk culture governance.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support the development of each member of the Operations team by adopting Continuous Conversations and by providing high challenge and high support.
  2. Ensure Development Plans and Commitments are agreed and regularly reviewed and updated where necessary.
  3. Manage workflow and resource including support from wider Underwriting & Claims team to meet internal/external SLAs of Operations team tasks.
  4. Take responsibility for reviewing and client internal audit results for Underwriting and Claims to ensure quality and standards are maintained.
  5. Assess complex large and or complex underwriting referrals across all main lines of business if/when needed.
  6. Manage/coordinate internal audit for Underwriting & Claims and monitor and report results.
  7. Take ownership for delivery of agreed client audit programme for Underwriting, Claims and Group Risk.
  8. Adopt a data-led approach to monitoring SLA’s, referral volumes and resource.
  9. Ensure that all practices comply with the guidelines stipulated by Munich Re and the processes.

Key Skills & Experience:

  1. Commercial understanding of Life and Health insurance market. Reinsurance experience would be useful but not essential.
  2. Confident and effective in dealing with internal stakeholders and with external clients at all levels.
  3. Strong organisational skills to meet deadlines and manage client expectations.
  4. Ability to produce high quality written material.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements:

  1. ACII or Equivalent Degree level desirable.
  2. You are aware of your role (as a leader) in being able to influence your team structure and culture to promote principles of diversity and inclusion.
