Job summary

QBE European Operations plc. in London seeks an Underwriter – Technology to grow its technology underwriting offering. You will underwrite risks, manage key relationships and help expand a technology portfolio within an international insurer with a human-centric approach.

You will work in a hybrid London environment, developing knowledge of cyber/PI lines, and collaborating across teams to deliver business objectives and strong outcomes for clients and brokers.

Qualifications

  • Underwriting experience within technology product lines.
  • Strong commercial acumen to maximise long-term shareholder value.
  • Proficient with Excel and department software packages.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite insurance risks in accordance with the Business Plan and personal authority.
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers, brokers, and partners to maximise influence.
  • Develop relationships in line with the Business Plan to support business objectives.
  • Understand and comply with reinsurance strategy to minimise risk and deliver objectives.
  • Adhere to underwriting standards and regulatory requirements to minimise risk.

The Opportunity

We have a newly created Underwriter role approved to grow out our Technology underwriting offering. Extending our wider Financial Lines capability, you’ll understand standalone and blended cyber/PI business, growing an existing portfolio.

With a broad appetite and territory focus coupled this is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to play a pivotal role in building out a technology book.

Your new role:
  • Underwrite insurance risks in accordance with the Business Plan and the personal authority to meet business objectives
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners and colleagues, to maximise influence
  • Develop relationships in line with the Business Plan to support the achievement of business objectives
  • Understand and comply with QBE reinsurance strategy to minimise risk and deliver business plan objectives
  • Participate fully and use your expertise to shape and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice
  • Positively promote the department, division and company as a whole, in order to maximise brand leverage
  • Comply with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met
  • Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and good practice to minimise risk and maximise efficiency
  • Actively keep abreast of market dynamics and demonstrate market cycle awareness to be able to operate effectively and appropriately
About you:
  • Underwriting experience within technology product lines
  • Commercial ability to understand the key profit drivers to maximise long term wealth for our shareholders
  • Intermediate level understanding of relevant software, including Excel and other departmental software packages
  • Excellent organisational, prioritisation and interpersonal skills
  • Good negotiating skills and an innovative underwriting approach
