Underwriter – Specie

London/Home hybrid

Following internal promotion, our Specie team is hiring an Underwriter to join our well-established and successful product offering. This role involves underwriting across syndicated and company paper on a global scale. Our generalist book focuses on fine art, cash in transit, jewellers block, and general specie. Recognised for our capabilities, this book has achieved notable and consistent growth over the last 5 years, further building our market-leading reputation. This is a great opportunity to advance your career in specie as part of an experienced and supportive underwriting team.

Your new role
  • Underwrite insurance risks according to the Business Plan and within your personal authority to meet business objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners, and colleagues to maximise influence.
  • Report on pipelines, new opportunities, and progress towards strategic goals on an ad hoc basis.
  • Use your expertise to shape and develop strategy, knowledge, and best practices.
  • Promote the department, division, and company positively to maximise brand leverage.
  • Travel as needed for broker development and to update product or underwriting knowledge.
  • Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions, and good practices to minimise risk and improve efficiency.
  • Stay informed about market dynamics and demonstrate market cycle awareness to operate effectively.
  • Ensure clear and prompt communication with Underwriters regarding underwriting and aggregate exposures, ensuring entries on EO systems are accurate.
About You
  • Ability to quote new and renewal business in some or all of the four risk codes.
  • Excellent organisational, prioritisation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong presentation skills and an open communication style.
  • Ability to influence others through leading by example.
  • Good negotiation skills, innovative underwriting approach, and programme design skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
