What Is the Opportunity?

Business Insurance helps companies in the UK and Ireland identify, prepare for, and mitigate risks by offering a broad array of industry-specific, combined property, casualty, and motor insurance solutions to customers. This includes SME solutions traded directly, Commercial Accounts traded via brokers, and Corporate Solutions to FTSE 350 Risk Managed companies.

Are you a meticulous Underwriter looking to specialise in a varied and interesting portfolio? We are seeking an Underwriter to join our Public Sector team, working on renewals and new business tenders for public sector policies across the UK. You’ll be responsible for underwriting primarily property policies but also casualty and motor lines of business. This role involves building strong relationships internally and externally to manage the full policy life cycle.

Work Arrangements

Travelers Europe offers flexibility for hybrid work in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy, which allows full-time employees to work three days in the office and two days at home, subject to change at the company's discretion.

What Will You Do?

1. Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business, including routine to moderately complex accounts across most of our products.
2. Underwrite and negotiate moderate risks to minimize risk and maximize profitability, including Mid Term Adjustments (MTAs).
3. Proactively manage your portfolio, ensuring key performance indicators are met, and actively target new business and retention.
4. Identify and take corrective action on risk characteristics through Portfolio Management collaboration.
5. Identify opportunities to write additional lines of business based on product knowledge and risk appetite.
6. Utilize various technology platforms to quote and bind risk efficiently.
7. Support the presentation of Underwriting Reviews and manage related action points.
8. Build and maintain relationships with internal partners and brokers to market and sell Travelers products, including travel to meetings as needed.
9. Develop pipeline plans and support the renewal team in business retention aligned with sales strategies.
10. Train and mentor less experienced underwriters and support team collaboration.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

1. A Levels or similar qualification.
2. Good knowledge of insurance products, regulatory environment, and local market.
3. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for underwriting, market analysis, and decision-making.
4. Effective communication and negotiation skills, especially with brokers.
5. Ability to work with diverse teams and leverage differences for business success.
6. Ability to review industry trends and competitor insights.
7. Experience participating in projects related to business and regulatory changes.

Must Have
