Job description

This position is responsible for underwriting a diverse book of business, employing the necessary methods to meet projected profitability, GWP, and expense goals. It involves management and growth of the overall portfolio within the appropriate underwriting guidelines, as well as marketing and servicing existing and potential insureds. The role also requires a basic knowledge of Property insurance to assist with underwriting Commercial Combined business.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Perform general underwriting functions including submission review, pricing analysis, setting of terms and conditions, and issuing quotes, binders, and invoices.
2. Ensure timely and accurate issuance of policies and craft endorsement wordings for legal approval.
3. Guide the Underwriting Support Assistant in processing policies and endorsements efficiently.
4. Coordinate with VP and SVP Casualty for referrals as needed.
5. Maintain underwriting files systematically and in accordance with guidelines, including reporting systems, rate change models, and submission logs.
6. Collaborate with the Actuarial Department to price specific accounts when appropriate.
7. Liaise with the Claims Department on claim issues that could impact profitability.
8. Stay informed about industry developments and market issues.
9. Travel within Ireland and Europe for meetings as required.
10. Assist in training underwriting and support staff.
11. Participate in project work and portfolio planning and monitoring.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Person Specification:

• At least 5 years of underwriting experience with Casualty accounts.
