Darwin Clayton (part of the Jensten Group) is seeking a Commercial Underwriter to join our team in Tunbridge Wells.

At Darwin Clayton, we are passionate about forming long-lasting and trusted partnerships with our brokers. We work closely with UK-leading insurers to provide access to our exclusive schemes, while our growing team of specialists is dedicated to delivering a personal and professional service that is second to none.

If successful, you will join a team of 5 underwriters within a friendly office of 35 colleagues. Your role will involve underwriting commercial insurance risks, negotiating rates, terms, and conditions for both new and existing business.

Hybrid working options are available (3 days from home, 2 days in the office following training).

Key Objectives & Responsibilities

• Deliver compliant, excellent service to all Partner Brokers and clients throughout their relationship with Darwin Clayton.
• Demonstrate a culture of successful and winning delivery.
• Seek opportunities to expand existing business and develop new opportunities to support our goal of being the complete broker.
• Work effectively as part of a team to meet targets related to volume, income, or quality.
• Ensure compliance with local procedures, customer service standards, and external regulations such as FCA.

About You

You should have strong attention to detail and accuracy, with excellent communication skills to deliver first-class service to our partner brokers.

• Experience in the commercial insurance industry, ideally with classes such as Employers Liability, Public Liability, and Contractors Liability.
• Experience with Delegated Authority or Schemes (preferable).
• Relevant qualifications (e.g., Cert CII) or working towards them.
• Ability to use judgment and experience when making decisions or advising clients, including knowing when to refer to an expert.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills, with a good telephone manner.
• Attention to detail and ability to multi-task, updating relevant systems as needed.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ideally experience with Acturis.
