Purpose of the Role

AEGIS London currently has a vacancy in the Casualty team for a US Casualty Underwriter. The role involves managing the US Casualty portfolio and working on Energy and Marine Liability business. The underwriter will operate in line with the business plan and personal underwriting authorities, focusing on strengthening the US Casualty portfolio and engaging in complementary classes of business to enhance overall underwriting performance at a top-quartile Lloyd’s Syndicate.

Duties and Accountabilities
  1. Underwrite business according to personal authority and underwriting guidelines, aiming to meet business mix, premium income, and loss ratio targets.
  2. Assist the Class Underwriter in managing and growing the US Casualty portfolio with new opportunities.
  3. Collaborate with peer reviewers to ensure risk records are complete and accessible for review.
  4. Liaise with other departments such as credit control, claims, and risk management.
  5. Provide high standards of service to brokers and policyholders.
  6. Work collaboratively within AEGIS London to maintain good working relationships with all staff.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Deep expertise in the US Casualty insurance market.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Excellent presentation, analytical, and negotiation skills.
  • A solid network within the London market.
  • Good understanding of the London and US Casualty markets.
  • ACII qualification or progress towards it (advantageous).
  • Proficiency in IT, including MS Office.
  • Ability to work well in a team and build relationships internally and externally.
