Location: Chelmsford, United Kingdom (Hybrid)

Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Motor Trade Underwriter to support and drive the development of a growing commercial motor portfolio across the Southeast. This role offers the opportunity to work with high-value accounts, apply underwriting expertise, and collaborate closely with specialist teams across underwriting, claims, and operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite insurance risks within delegated authority in line with the business plan
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders
  • Contribute to the development of strategy, knowledge sharing, and best practices within the team
  • Promote the organisation’s capabilities and services to strengthen market presence
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain underwriting discipline and adherence to internal guidelines
  • Remain informed on market trends and apply insights to support competitive underwriting decisions

Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrated experience in UK motor trade underwriting
  • Strong technical knowledge, particularly with large-premium accounts (£50k+)
  • Effective negotiation skills with a commercial mindset
  • Established relationships with intermediaries in the Southeast region
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver client-focused solutions
  • Strong understanding of key profit drivers and long-term value creation
