The opportunity

The Corporate Intelligence, Engagement and Communications team manages and delivers all aspects of corporate affairs, from crafting compelling content to liaising with politicians, partners and journalists. This placement is your front-row seat to the fast-paced world of corporate affairs and media relations. You won’t just be shadowing – you’ll be doing. You’ll work with a supportive team, build on your experience, and gain insights that go far beyond the classroom.

The role

The 12-week corporate affairs placement will contribute to planning, producing new reports and frameworks, content creation for parliamentarians and media, and delivery of a parliamentary event programme.

By the end of it, you will have developed a strong foundation in modern corporate affairs practices and made a real impact on brand visibility and audience engagement.

This placement offers experience across two key areas of our business:

  • Stakeholder engagement and parliamentary liaison
  • Corporate communications, including media relations, reputation management, and news creation

It’s your opportunity to:

  • Make a valuable contribution to our strategic stakeholder engagement approach
  • Get experience of the political landscape and environment that public sector organisations like us operate in
  • Experience a busy press office and fast-paced corporate communications team as we enhance and protect the organisation’s reputation

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Parliamentary and media content planning and creation
  • Assisting with media and parliamentary enquiries
  • Leading the coordination of a framework for strategic stakeholder engagement, including supporting senior regional engagement
  • Reporting and analysing activity
Who we're looking for

This programme welcomes applications from undergraduates who are in the early stages of their degree studies.

This role is ideally suited to you if you're creative, proactive and can work collaboratively in a busy team environment as you'll need to constantly adapt to new information and opportunities.

At a minimum you should be an undergraduate in public affairs, corporate communications, communications, public relations, or business, with the ability to demonstrate:

  • Confident and creative verbal and written communication
  • Digital literacy across social, web and email
  • Analytical thinking with an ability to interpret data
  • Skills in the creation and curation of content in line with our brand tone of voice
  • Strong research and presenting skills
  • Education to SCQF Level six

Ideally, but not essentially, you’ll also have:

  • Power BI reporting awareness and understanding of how to harness this for decision-making
  • Knowledge of Scotland’s political and media landscapes
