British American Tobacco UK invites applications for an undergraduate intern in Modern Oral Product Development, based in Southampton for a 12‑month placement. The role supports discovery, development and delivery of products across current and emerging platforms, contributing to product design and consumer experience.

The placement offers mentorship, regular reviews, and exposure to a full development lifecycle from lab-scale prototyping to scale-up planning, with cross-functional collaboration

Qualifications

• Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Materials Science, Pharmaceutical Science, Chemical Engineering or closely related subject.
• Curious and analytical mindset with interest in experimental design and data interpretation.
• Hands-on approach with willingness to learn product development, prototyping and testing techniques.
• Proactive self-starter who asks questions and contributes new ideas.
• Strong communication to explain technical information to various stakeholders.
• Collaborative team player aligned with BAT values and culture.

Responsibilities

• Support development of Modern Oral products by exploring formulation, pouch, packaging and sensory levers.
• Design and execute experiments including lab-based prototyping and data capture.
• Work with stakeholders across Product Development, Analytical, Sensory, Quality, Packaging, Manufacturing and Regulatory to evaluate prototypes.
• Analyse results and provide evidence-based recommendations for project decisions.
• Independently manage work plans, timelines and documentation for milestones.
• Capture and share product knowledge to strengthen Modern Oral technical understanding.
