Lead PDP Academy Physiotherapist, providing medical provision for academy players, including clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of injured players for both training and match days. This role involves caring for U18 players and supporting U9-16 care when needed by the Full-Time U9-16 Sports Therapist. There is also an opportunity to work closely with the First Team and learn from First Team Physiotherapists and Sports Scientists.
Specific tasks & responsibilities
- Lead the medical care of the Barnsley FC U18s in line with the Club’s strategic objectives and the EPPP.
- Manage and oversee treatment and rehabilitation of injured U18 Academy players.
- Deliver regular in-service training for part-time physiotherapists.
- Maintain medical notes in accordance with CSP/HCPC standards.
- Regulate and manage PMA/Catapult systems during rehabilitation.
- Participate and contribute to all Academy Team Meetings.
- Undertake regular independent CPD.
- Support the Head of Academy, Sport Science, and Medicine during training/match days as required.
- Provide pitch-side emergency first aid for U18 games/training.
- Manage injured players daily.
- Provide high-quality, evidence-based assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation using available equipment and facilities.
- Monitor and manage training loads in conjunction with sport science.
- Complete objective measures before clearing players for training or referring to sport science.
- Liaise with coaches and sport science regarding the U9-18 squads daily.
- Coordinate with the club doctor on matters regarding ill/injured players and seek approval before investigations.
- Communicate with national medical services regarding ongoing assessments and treatment.
- Maintain an injury audit and present monthly findings to senior staff and coaches.
- Conduct annual medical screenings and develop injury prevention plans.
- Implement injury prevention exercises for players with previous injuries or screening issues.
- Ensure all medical equipment is operational and in date.
- Adopt a holistic approach to injury management, involving sport psychology and MDT where appropriate.
- Support cardiac screenings annually for U21/19s, first-year scholars, and U15s.
- Arrange and assist with medicals as needed for U18s/21s, including liaising with consultants and escorting players.
- Assist the Head Physiotherapist with financial management, including ordering supplies and arranging scans and appointments.
- Undertake any other duties reasonably required to fulfill the role.

About The Candidate
Qualifications
- BSc or MSc in Physiotherapy (pre-registration).
- Full and in-date CSP and HCPC registration.
- First Aid in Sport qualification (current).
- Experience working with young athletes.
- Full UK driving license.
- FA Advanced/Intermediate Trauma Medical Management in Football qualification (or willingness to obtain).
- Competent in IT software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Experience within professional football or as an academy physiotherapist.
- Knowledge of EPPP.
- Competent in the use of PMA/Catapult systems.
