Position Summary: Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic medical sonograms at a technical level requiring sound understanding of anatomy measurements and abnormal or suspicious anatomy; a high degree of technical competency and with the ability to act with initiative and ingenuity with minimal supervision. Employees in this position will be responsible for inpatient on-call and shift rotation.
Duties:
- Review outpatient orders prior to the day of the procedure to ensure accuracy and to avoid delays in patient care.
- Provide excellent patient care by educating and preparing patients for their procedures while utilizing effective communication.
- Position patients so desired anatomy will be demonstrated and ensure patient comfort and safety during their procedures.
- Obtain and document accurate patient medical history to assist radiologists’ interpretation.
- Perform a variety of diagnostic sonograms including but not limited to Abdomen (Aorta, right upper quadrant, renal, renal Doppler), OB GYN (first, second, and third trimester fetal examinations), pelvis (transabdominal and transvaginal), Small parts (thyroid, extremity, scrotum, breast), Pediatrics (pylorus, spine, hips), and procedures (biopsies of thyroid, liver, lymph nodes, renal, aspirations, paracentesis, thoracentesis).
- Perform standard diagnostic sonogram procedures as ordered by physicians.
- Determine and set appropriate technical parameters to accurately demonstrate anatomy and pathology.
- Complete exams in hospital information system.
- Clean and maintain all imaging equipment.
- Assist with mentoring and/or training students or new hires.
