Position Summary: Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic medical sonograms at a technical level requiring sound understanding of anatomy measurements and abnormal or suspicious anatomy; a high degree of technical competency and with the ability to act with initiative and ingenuity with minimal supervision. Employees in this position will be responsible for inpatient on-call and shift rotation.

Duties:

  1. Review outpatient orders prior to day of procedure to ensure accuracy and to avoid delay in patient care.
  2. Provide excellent patient care by educating and preparing patients for their procedure while utilizing effective communication.
  3. Position patients so desired anatomy will be demonstrated and ensure patient comfort and safety for the duration of their procedure.
  4. Obtain and document accurate patient medical history to assist radiologist’s interpretation.
  5. Perform a variety of diagnostic sonograms to include but not limited to Abdomen- Aorta, right upper quadrant, renal, renal doppler, OB GYN- first, second, and third trimester fetal examinations, pelvis- trans abdominal and transvaginal. Small parts- thyroid, extremity, scrotum, and breast. Pediatrics- pylorus, spine, hips. Procedures- Biopsies of thyroid, liver, lymph nodes, renal, aspirations, paracentesis, and thoracentesis.
  6. Perform standard diagnostic sonogram procedures as required by physician’s order.
  7. Determine and set appropriate technical parameters to accurately demonstrate anatomy and pathology.
  8. Completion of exam in hospital information system.
  9. Cleaning and maintaining all imaging equipment.
  10. May also assist with mentoring and/or training students, new hires.
