Job summary

A&O Shearman in Belfast is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join the Payroll team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. You will manage monthly UK payrolls, handle changes, deductions, and contractor remittance for inside IR35, and collaborate with HR to ensure accuracy and compliance.

The role requires strong UK payroll knowledge (PAYE, NI, RTI, pensions), excellent numeracy, and experience with HRIS/Payroll systems such as PeopleSoft or SD Worx; relevant professional qualifications are a plus.

Qualifications

• Proven track record in processing a comparable sized payroll.
• Experience with UK payroll including PAYE, NI, RTI, pensions.
• Experience with reconciliations of general ledger accounts.

Responsibilities

• Process allocated UK payrolls from data collection to final outputs.
• Input, validate and process payroll changes including starters, leavers, overtime, deductions.
• Calculate statutory and occupational payments and complex adjustments.
• Administer payroll for contractors operating inside IR35.
• Ensure HMRC notifications are applied correctly in payroll.
• Respond to employee/contractor payroll inquiries.
• Liaise with HR for queries and payments.
• Assist with benefit administration and salary sacrifice schemes.
• Undertake monthly reconciliation and year-end processes.
• Review monthly payroll/remittance calculations with Payroll Manager.
