Job summary

A&O Shearman is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join the Belfast payroll team on a 12‑month fixed-term contract. The role covers UK payroll processing, contractor payrolls inside IR35, and coordinating with HR on payments and queries.

The successful candidate will have strong UK payroll knowledge and experience with relevant payroll systems. You will handle data validation, statutory payments, and year-end tasks while ensuring accuracy and timely payment.

Qualifications

• UK payroll expertise and solid knowledge of PAYE & NI.
• Experience with PeopleSoft HRIS and SD Worx payroll preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data handling for payroll processes.

Responsibilities

• Process monthly UK payrolls from data collection to final outputs.
• Validate starters, leavers, changes, overtime, deductions and one-off payments.
• Calculate statutory payments and pension/ salary sacrifice adjustments.
• Administer contractor payrolls inside IR35 remittance; ensure HMRC notifications are applied.
• Respond to payroll inquiries and liaise with HR for queries.
• Undertake monthly reconciliations, journals and year-end processes.
• Assist with benefits administration and ad hoc payroll projects.
