JOB SUMMARY
As an SF&D partnership initiative, The Knowledge Bank (TKB) was established in 2021 and was launched as a website with a new approach to managing, sharing and disseminating market data, research, insight and knowledge to the Scottish food and drink industry to help it grow, make it resilient and to ensure it is informed. The overriding purpose of The Knowledge Bank as it launched was to provide support in Scotland around the use, value and understanding of insight. The team are focused on informing and upskilling producers and retailers in order to provide a competitive advantage in gaining and securing distribution, developing new products or evaluating the impact of activity in outlet.
Through a deep understanding of the route to market, The Knowledge Bank aims, using a variety of research methods, to identify and unlock opportunities for those involved in the Scottish Food and Drink industry – with a primary focus of providing the tools to deliver that.
The Knowledge Bank is also a central part of the delivery team for the Scotland Food & Drink Partnership Strategy, providing KPIs, analysis, insight and reporting, designed to inform the strategic direction and identify clear gaps where Scottish Food and Drink companies and brands should focus to achieve our collective goals. We are currently working on projects focusing on UK grocery and foodservice markets, international market opportunities, e-commerce, future trends including sustainability and health as well as keeping an eye on industry performance.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As part of its market focus, The Knowledge Bank team operates across three distinct work areas – Scotland, UK and export markets.
The UK Market Insight Manager role is designed to deliver actionable insight that enables businesses and sectors to develop, expand, and grow within the UK market.
This approach involves collaborating with external data and research partners to commission insight that identifies opportunities for the industry. These opportunities may be market-, sector-, or category-specific—or a combination of all three. The UK Market Insight Manager is responsible for analysing the data, applying knowledge/insight, and interpreting its meaning for various users. These users include food and drink businesses, internal colleagues within the UK Market Development team, industry partners, or retail and foodservice buyers.
The UK Market Insight Manager is responsible for delivering events, webinars and activities linked to the generated insights, creating content for newsletters, the website, and social media channels, and leading relationships with UK data partners.
A key aspect of the role involves presenting insights clearly and effectively. The individual will be expected to ensure that insights are both actionable and practical for end users, with a strong ability to communicate findings in a meaningful way.
