Role Overview

A digital legal/court reporter attends hearings in person or remotely to record and log proceedings.

We are seeking digital reporters (loggers) to join our UK team. Candidates will contract with eScribers Limited and may work with either of our reporting and transcription companies, eScribers Limited or Marten Walsh Cherer Limited, both operating independently within the group.

Responsibilities
  1. Transport and set up digital recording equipment remotely and on location.
  2. Manage recording and logging of events efficiently, adhering to timelines and seeking support when needed.
  3. Communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, and venue staff to meet contractual obligations.
  4. Build relationships with clients and venues to ensure smooth events and facilitate transcript production.
  5. Understand court proceedings and basic legal terminology.
  6. Provide high-level customer service and support.
  7. Identify and troubleshoot issues.
  8. Maintain attention to detail and accuracy.
  9. Work independently and as part of a team.

General Requirements
  • Reside in the UK and are legally entitled to work here.
  • Have a UK bank account for payments.
  • Be reliable, with good time management and flexibility.
  • Communicate confidently in writing and verbally.
  • Present well and remain calm under pressure.
  • Possess intermediate IT/AV troubleshooting skills.
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Windows and Word.
  • Have strong English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax skills.
  • Pay close attention to detail.
  • Work independently and in a team.
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion.
  • Have problem-solving skills.
  • Be able to travel within London and other cities like Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, and Manchester, including overnight stays, with flexibility for further travel.

Engagement Details

Successful candidates will receive a freelancer contract, work at agreed rates, and submit invoices for payment via direct deposit. Work volume may fluctuate, and no guaranteed workload exists. Priority is given to those maintaining high-quality standards.

Onboarding Process

Includes aptitude testing, interviews, documentation submission, equipment setup, BPSS (including Criminal Records Check) at the candidate’s expense, and familiarization with our software and equipment.
