Job summary

DOT Partners is assisting a UK-based engineering group in recruiting a hands-on Financial Controller to lead finance across the UK entities, based in Worsley with travel to the Scottish site. You’ll partner with Sales, Operations and Production to drive financial performance and robust reporting.

You will oversee budgeting, forecasting, month-end, and statutory requirements, while developing a small team and improving processes and controls. Hybrid working is offered with a competitive package.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant (ACCA / ACA / CIMA) with senior finance experience.
• Experience in manufacturing, engineering or an operational business.
• Strong experience across financial control, reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
• Understanding of production costing, inventory and bills of materials.

Responsibilities

• Own the UK finance function, including month-end, reporting and planning.
• Manage annual budgets, monthly forecasts and cash flow.
• Monitor financial performance, explain variances and identify risks/opportunities.
• Maintain strong financial controls, reconciliations and accounting records.
• Coordinate statutory accounts, audits, tax filings and compliance.

Job description

We’ve partnered exclusively with a £250m turnover global engineering group is looking for a hands on UK Financial Controller to lead finance across their growing £15m UK entities.

The business operates across Worsley and Dunfermline, and is shifting its operational focus towards the Manchester site. Reporting to the European Finance Director, based in France, you’ll lead a team of 3 and work closely with the Sales Director and wider UK Senior Management Team.

This is a broad, hands-on role combining ownership of financial control, reporting and planning with close business partnering across Sales, Operations and Production. You’ll help the business improve its reporting and processes, strengthen communication between Finance and the wider teams, and connect operational activity with its financial impact.

The role

You’ll take ownership of the UK finance function, including:

• Leading the month end process and producing accurate, timely reports for local management and Group Finance.
• Managing annual budgets, monthly forecasts and cash flow.
• Monitoring financial performance, explaining variances and identifying risks and opportunities.
• Maintaining strong financial controls, reconciliations and accounting records.
• Coordinating statutory accounts, audit requirements, tax filings and other compliance.
• Improving processes, systems and the quality of local reporting.
• Supporting commercial decisions, tenders and sales activity with clear financial analysis.
• Partnering with Operations and Production on costing, performance and the financial impact of operational decisions.
• Managing and developing a team of 3, whilst remaining hands-on.

The UK business is going through a significant transition. Its former larger Scottish manufacturing operation has been scaled back, and the centre of activity is moving towards Worsley. You’ll help maintain continuity across both sites and build strong relationships with the team in Scotland.

About you

You’ll be a qualified accountant (ACCA / ACA / CIMA) with experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or similar senior role. Experience in manufacturing, engineering or another operational business would be particularly beneficial.

You’ll bring:

• Strong experience across financial control, reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
• An understanding of production, costing, inventory and bills of materials.
• The confidence to work closely with Sales, Operations and Production teams.
• The ability to explain financial information clearly and usefully to non-finance colleagues.
• Experience improving processes, reporting and controls.
• Confidence managing a small team while remaining involved in the detail.
• Strong systems skills, including experience with ERP or consolidation software.
• A practical, collaborative approach and the flexibility to manage a broad remit.

Location and travel

The role will be based in Worsley, with regular travel to the company’s Scottish site. During the initial handover, you should expect to spend around 2–3 days per week there for the first few weeks.

Once established, travel will be approximately 1 day per fortnight.

Travel and accommodation costs will be provided.
