Worley is seeking a UK Director of Engineering to lead and govern Engineering & Design across the UK, providing strategic direction, technical governance and people leadership for a workforce of about 500 engineers across multiple disciplines and locations.

The role drives safety, quality and delivery standards, partners with senior management and FEED teams, and champions Worley values while shaping capability, efficiency and innovation in a transitioning low-carbon energy landscape.

UK Director of Engineering (Corporate)
Role Purpose

The UK Director of Engineering is the single point of accountability for the governance and delivery of Engineering & Design (E&D) within Worley UK. The role provides leadership, technical governance, people management, resource planning, project delivery oversight, business support, and continuous improvement across the engineering function.

The role provides leadership across approximately 500 engineering professionals spanning seven technical disciplines and multiple UK locations.

Key Accountabilities
Engineering Leadership & Governance
  • Provide visible leadership and governance for the engineering function.
  • Champion Worley Purpose, Values, Life culture, and SEAL (Safety).
  • Serve as a senior member of the Location Management Team.
  • Own engineering risk management and improvement plans.
  • Drive engineering performance and technical excellence.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, standards, and company requirements.
Technical Stewardship & Quality
  • Hold 100% accountability for Technical Stewardship in the location.
  • Ensure engineering work complies with the Worley Management System.
  • Lead Technical Peer Reviews (TPRs).
  • Monitor engineering quality and technical integrity.
  • Investigate and address engineering errors, incidents, and technical issues.
  • Ensure implementation of SEAL (Safe and Sustainable Engineering for Asset Lifecycle).
Project Delivery
  • Support excellence in project delivery through effective processes, systems, and governance.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to discipline teams and project teams.
  • Resolve project execution and engineering issues.
  • Ensure effective workshare and Global Integrated Delivery (GID) utilization.
  • Participate in project reviews and engineering assurance activities.
People Leadership
  • Line manager for Discipline Managers and Project Engineering Managers.
  • Manage performance, career development, , recognition, remuneration, and engagement.
  • Lead succession planning for critical engineering leadership and technical specialist roles.
  • Ensure competency assessments are completed.
  • Develop location capability and talent pipelines.
  • Support graduate development, SME development, and learning programs.
  • Promote diversity, inclusion, wellbeing, and employee engagement.
Resource Planning & Capability
  • Manage engineering budgets and workforce plans.
  • Ensure the location has sufficient capability and capacity.
  • Approve and support recruitment decisions.
  • Develop capability matrices and location capability profiles.
  • Manage mobilization and demobilization of engineering resources.
  • Develop long-term workforce and succession plans aligned to business strategy.
  • Identify current and future capability gaps and support implementation of targeted development plans.
Digitalization & Engineering Systems
  • Drive adoption of Worley global engineering tools and systems.
  • Align with the Global Engineering Digitalization Strategy.
  • Promote data-centric and integrated engineering delivery.
  • Minimize deviations from approved global engineering tools.
Business Development & Proposals
  • Support pursuit and proposal activities.
  • Engage with customers and maintain strategic relationships.
  • Develop engineering execution strategies.
  • Review engineering estimates and benchmarks.
  • Support winning new work and improving competitiveness.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
  • Lead annual engineering reviews.
  • Drive lessons learned and best-practice sharing.
  • Support innovation initiatives and global engineering networks.
  • Develop and implement engineering improvement plans.
